REITs vs Stocks daily update – August 12, 2021
The stock market had a fantastic growth day stated in some articles as record highs, so what does that mean for my investment challenge of REITs vs Stocks; let’s take a closer look:
TLDR; What’s this all about? I invested $1000 in both REITs (Real Estate Investment Trust) and the Stock Market, and now it’s a challenge to seeing which one will perform better in the next 5 years. You can read the start here. Below is today’s daily update….
Stock Investment – Wealthfront
Today’s balance: $1,004.01 (Net returns to date: $4.01 increase)
Day change: $0.59 decrease since yesterday ($1004.60)
Historical info: Invested $1000 on August 2, 2021
REITs – Fundrise
Today’s balance: $1002.68 (Net returns to date: $2.68 gain)
Day change: $0.09 (Small growth) since yesterday ($1002.59)
Historical info: $1000 on July 27, 2021 (initial investment)
REITs win today vs Stocks – as it increased 9 cents. Oddly enough, my $1000 in Wealthfront stocks decreased by 59 cents even though the stock market performed well. It struck me as odd, so I looked a bit deeper in the reports. Although there were overall increases of US. Stocks, my Emerging Market stocks (19% allocation, down 1.6%) , Municipal Bonds (5% allocation, down 0.5%) decreased significantly and that accounts for 26% of my $1000 allocation.
