Pro tips to help you update your resume during layoffs

In general, it’s a good practice to keep your resume updated with any new skills, experiences, or accomplishments as soon as they happen. This way, you won’t forget any important details and can easily apply for new job opportunities as they arise.

Now that we’re in a declining economy with layoffs announcements daily, it’s a good idea to get started on updating your resume.

Here are a few tips for writing an effective resume:

  1. Keep it concise and focused: Your resume should be no longer than two pages and should highlight your most relevant experience and skills for the job you’re applying for.
  2. Use strong action verbs: Start each bullet point with a strong action verb that emphasizes your accomplishments, such as “led,” “managed,” or “created.”
  3. Quantify your achievements: Whenever possible, use specific numbers and statistics to demonstrate the impact of your work, such as “increased sales by 20%” or “managed a team of 10 employees.”
  4. Tailor it to the job: Customize your resume to the job you’re applying for by using keywords from the job description and highlighting your relevant experience and skills.
  5. Use a professional format: Use a clean, easy-to-read format and avoid using too many fonts or colors.
